Printable Games for Kids to Learn Math & Reading

The adage "Practice makes perfect" may be true, but practice can be boring. It is not an enviable task to convince a child to practice important skills. Educational games can make this task easier. Games help to alleviate boredom and make learning fun. If you know where to look, you can find free printable games for almost every subject. Links to all sites discussed are included in the "References" section.
  1. KidZone Math

    • KidZone offers free printable math worksheets for preschool through grade five. You can print the sheets with general themes such as the ocean, Olympics and holiday themes. Math concepts range from addition to geometry. Word problems are available for grades one through five. Children in grades three and up will enjoy the math brainteasers and mathematical magic tricks.

    KidZone Reading

    • KidZone also offers reading practice sheets. At the home page click on "Language Arts." On the Language Arts page, selections include alphabet recognition, short vowels, sight word flashcards, and printable mini-books.

    DLTK

    • This site offers printable alphabet bingo, coloring pages, connect the dots and sequencing games. Alphabet crafts and Alphabuddies are also on the site. Activities to go along with favorite children's books are available. Printable number games include Bingo, dominoes and memory. In addition to games, paper craft activities cover several number concepts including fractions and geometry.

    Make Learning Fun

    • Under "Activities" you will find printables for many popular books. Dozens of titles are included such as "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" by Bill Martin, Jr., and "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. Each title has five to ten activities listed. Zoophonics activites are also provided. Printable math activities include candy sorting mats (using Skittles), domino math fun and money count cards.
