How to Start Out Homeschooling in Kindergarten

Homeschooling your family may be a personal choice for teaching and sharing the world around you with your children in a way you see fit. Starting your child in homeschooling in kindergarten can be done easily depending on the state you currently reside in. Each state has various rules and regulations for homeschooling children.

Instructions

    • 1

Research your state's legal status on homeschooling your child as well as any requirements you may need to meet in order to register him at home.

    • 2

Locate available resources and information in your community on the education policies regarding homeschooling. You can generally find information at your local city hall or board of education building. Once you have this information, file any paperwork necessary to register your child legally with your state for homeschooling.

    • 3

Call a school nearby to ask for further information and resources on homeschooling in your area. Other resources are available at libraries and from organizations and local community groups. Visit online resource websites such as The Home School Mom, Time 4 Learning and Homeschool (see Resources) for information and guides on workbooks, lesson plans and other downloads for your child's school days.

    • 4

Begin planning your child's curriculum based on your findings as well as your own curriculum and lesson plan ideas. Download lesson plans from support group communities online and create your own lessons based on activities your child is interested in. Homeschooling is open-ended; you have plenty of subject options to choose from to teach your children.

    • 5

Join local homeschooling groups and online homeschooling networks to work with other parents on developing curriculum and lesson plans. This will also allow you to share and discuss ideas such as special projects, field trips and creating exams.

    • 6

Record and keep track of all of your child's work and studies to show progress and to motivate him with achievement. You can introduce a reward system as part of your curriculum and grade scale, such as more art projects or any another favorite interest he has.
