Katie's Cooking School in Encino offers weekly cooking classes for children ages 6 through 14, in addition to "Mommy and Me" classes designed for children under the age of 5. The classes' subject matter changes monthly, and typically focuses on one culinary theme, such as regional cuisine, traditional holiday foods or seasonal ingredients. Katie's Cooking School also offers three-week cooking camps during winter and summer breaks from school. The camps consist of three weekly meetings for three total weeks of cooking instruction. Each week the camp centers on a different, yet related, cooking method, ingredient or recipe. Every Friday and Saturday evening, the school provides a four-hour "Parent's Night Out" class that provides children with cooking instruction, a movie, food, crafts and games. As of February 2011, the cost of classes at Katie's Cooking School cost $45 per child, and the cost of the cooking camps ranged from $175 to $255.
Culinary Cuties in the Woodland Hills area of the San Fernando Valley provides four types of on-site cooking classes for children ages 7 and older. The chef-instructors augment each class with nutrition education, and prepare all ingredients that require chopping, cutting and slicing. The two-hour "Dandy Duo Package" consists of instruction in creating one meal based on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's food pyramid. The package costs $75 per student, in addition to supply costs, as of February 2011. The two-hour "Baking Buddies Package" provides training in a simple baking preparation chosen from the Culinary Cuties cookbook, and costs $60. "My Own Restaurant Package" involves choosing one restaurant theme and creating a dinner complete with menu planning and tableside service. The children also decide the name of their "restaurant" and create a sign for it. "Party Animals Package" pulls recipes from the Celebrate Sweets section of the school's cookbook for the children to prepare. The class costs $45 and has a four-student minimum. Parents pay for supplies used in all packages in addition to the class costs.
Stir Crazy Kidz in the west San Fernando Valley provides private and group cooking classes for ages 5 to young adult. The "College Prep" class is designed to prepare older students for creating their own meals when they leave home, and costs $50 per student or $180 for a group of four lessons, as of February 2011. Private and semi-private classes are intended for children ages 3 to 13, have a three-student limit and cost between $140 and $200, depending on class size. "Funtime Lessons" consists of two classes -- one for children 5 to 7 years old, and one for ages 8 to 13. The class costs between $135 and $150, depending on class size. "Playdate" and "Cooking Badge Opportunities" classes cost $30 per student, and are designed for four to six participants.
Kitchen Kid offer on-site cooking classes throughout the San Fernando Valley for children ages 3 and older. Its offerings include "Tot Chef Cook Group," "What's for Dinner," "Growing Up Gourmet Culinary Classes" and "Mom's Night Off." The "Tot Chef Cook-Group" focuses on simple preparations for ages 3 through 7. "Growing Up Gourmet Culinary Classes" examines healthful cooking and developing the child's palate. "What's For Dinner" promotes family involvement in food preparation.
