Homemade Thank-You Gifts for a Homeroom Mom

Homeroom moms plan an important part in our schools. With classroom sizes growing, teachers welcome the help offered by the volunteer homeroom moms. These volunteers will value homemade thank-you gifts more than an expensive present; the time you put into making these gifts will show your appreciation for your homeroom mom.
  1. Bath Salts

    • Relaxing in a nice, hot bath at the end of the day can calm anyone; the calming scent of lavender or chamomile can make it even better. To show your homeroom mom you appreciate her, let her know you think she should take a load off and just take time for herself. Find a glass jar or bottle that would look nice with the salts to give as a gift. You will need some Epsom salt, sea salt or baking soda. You can mix the two salts if you want the textures. Measure the amount of salt you will need for your jar, and empty it into a bowl to add your other ingredients. Add a few drops of essential oils such as lavender, orange or chamomile. You may also choose to add a bit of food coloring for appearance. Mix the salts, and place them in the jar. Add some embellishments to the jar for a little added decoration.

    Bookmark

    • Everyone can use a bookmark, and homeroom moms are no different. A mom involved in children's education likely enjoys a good story. Using construction paper or a heavier paper, cut out long rectangles. Punch a small hole in the top of the bookmark, and lace a small ribbon through it. Add beads, feathers or other ornaments to the ribbon for extra decoration. Using stamps, markers or a clever saying, decorate the bookmark itself. On the back of the bookmark, write a short thank-you note for the homeroom mom that personalizes the bookmark.

    Personalized Book

    • Throughout the year, your homeroom mom develops a relationship with the children in your classes. Let the mom know how much the students also appreciate her by having each student write something kind about her, such as a picture or a funny anecdote. Have the students sign their name on their card or paper. Put the quotes together in a book, then bind it with a ribbon, twine or metal rings. She will always enjoy going back through the book to remember the students.

    Journals

    • Give your homeroom mom a journal in which to record her thoughts. Making a journal is not that difficult, and she will appreciate it every time she opens it. Using cardboard, decorative paper, glue and ribbon, you can make a simple and beautiful book. Binding a book on your own does not have to be expensive or impossible. Using a certain technique, you can secure the book's binding with ribbon and glue. She will be extremely thankful for the thoughtful gift that gives her the freedom of expression.
