How Can I Obtain My Child's Student ID Number?

Student identification numbers (I.D.) are needed for creating student lunch accounts and obtaining college transcripts. It is difficult to find a child's I.D. number when students do not have an I.D. card issued by the school or have lost their card. However, there are documents that given to students and sent home to parents providing the student's I.D. number. Set the documents aside once obtained to use as future reference when the student I.D. number is needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain her report card sent home from school. Look at the top of the report card document, near the student's name. Student identification numbers are often placed beside the student's name on its own individual line.

    • 2

Retrieve his standardized test results, such as the California Standardized Test (CST), taken during the prior school year. Inspect the top right or left corner of the document. Standardized tests display the student I.D. numbers as "Local I.D. #," followed by a 10 digit number beginning with zeros.

    • 3

Review the registration schedule for older children attending college. Student identification numbers are located at the upper top left corner, next to the student's name and school term.

    • 4

Visit the school your child is currently attending, and speak to the administrator. Provide the administrator with your child's name and inquire about your child's student identification number. In most cases, parents and guardians will need to provide identification to prove their relation to the child. A driver's license or state identification card may suffice.
