Marine Boarding Schools

Marine boarding schools are a popular choice for families that want their children to receive an education that prepares them academically, mentally, spiritually and physically. Over the course of many years, these schools have developed structured academic and training programs that help instill the values and ideals of the U.S. Marine Corps, but many people don't know what it takes to get admitted to these schools and what to expect while enrolled.
  1. Admission

    • Marine boarding schools are known for being extremely rigorous and strict. Thus, their admissions are based on a number of different factors such as academic, health and disciplinary history. Children admitted to these programs must be able to adapt and meet their unique physical, emotional and academic challenges. Admissions counselors interview each applicant to determine whether they believe the student will succeed based on the school's challenging conditions.

    Academics

    • Students at these schools will be taught all the fundamentals, English, math, science and social science, in preparation for college. In addition, they have the option of taking foreign language, computer science, business, aerospace and information system classes. Just like other high schools, honors and advanced placement courses are offered to earn college credit, and given extra weight with respect to computing GPA and class ranks.

    Physical Activity

    • At Marine boarding schools, students will be required to participate in daily physical activity as though they were in the military. Many people claim it is this military structure and discipline that makes these schools so successful. Most mornings begin with physical training, including calisthenics and running, something that helps students develop discipline and adherence to a strict schedule.

    Extracurricular Activities

    • In addition to academic and physical training, students will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. They can choose from a variety of interscholastic sports, including basketball, baseball, football, soccer, diving, golf, and track. Other extracurricular activities include pep band, photography, music and percussion. Students are able to choose which extracurricular activity they want to participate In based on their own interests.
