Create a set of guidelines that students can follow to learn organizational skills. This list should be five to seven steps so kids can quickly check items off the list each day.
Write or type the organizational steps. For example, the steps could be: Step One - Start your school day by reviewing your daily schedule. Step Two - Determine what assignments are due and make sure they are completed. Step Three - Review your planner to see if you have upcoming tests and plan time to study. Step Four - Check the notes section of your planner to see if you have anything important upcoming. Step Five - Look at the board in each of your classes to see if your teacher has written any essential information about assignments or tests. Write that in your planner on the appropriate day.
Make copies of your list and have them laminated to ensure that they will last.
Provide each student with a weekly planner. The planner should have space for each day so every student can write notes about assignments, due dates or other important school details.
Paste your list of organizational steps on the inside cover of the planner. Instruct the students to reference this list at the beginning of each school day to help keep them organized and on track.
