Powerpoint Projects for Fifth Grade Students

Elementary school students aren't just using computers for entertainment, they are used in the classroom to aid in presentations. Students learn to use software programs ranging from word processing to graphical presentation software in fifth grade. PowerPoint allows them to share information with classmates and teachers, such as graphics and sounds, to supplement written reports and presentations.
  1. Family Project

    • Introduce the fifth grader to PowerPoint by having him use it to create a slide show about his family, with information about each family member. This will allow him to learn how to import photographs into the slides in PowerPoint. He will learn how to size them to adjust them to fit onto the screen properly. He will also use the text section to write a couple sentences about each of his family members.

    Book Reports

    • Students can create a PowerPoint slide show to aid them in presenting book reports to the class. A student can create slides featuring the author's photograph and highlights of the author's career. She can use slides with text to outline each section of her book report that she would like to discuss with the class. She could even use a scanner to scan photographs from the book and then add those into the PowerPoint slides to avoid the presentation from being too heavy on text without enough graphics.

    Summer Vacation Report

    • Introduce your students to PowerPoint by allowing them to share some of their favorite memories from the past summer. Have them create slides highlighting what they did during the past summer before returning to school. Slides can be created highlighting short facts about things they did, such as sports leagues, time at the pool or family vacations. They will learn graphic publication skills such as balancing text and graphics in their PowerPoint presentations.

    Create a Trivia Game

    • Have students use PowerPoint to create trivia games for their classmates to participate in. Instruct them to create slides that have questions, and then use PowerPoint display functions to display the answer in different ways. Examples could include having the answer appear under the question when a button is pushed, slide across the screen, or appear and then disappear on the screen. Add sound files to the answers, such as applause at the end of the game congratulating the students on completing the round of trivia successfully.
