Assign each student to type the first two paragraphs of a fiction story. Instruct them to describe the setting and at least two characters within the paragraphs. Have each student move one seat to their right and type the next paragraph of their classmate's story. Provide students with about 5 minutes and then instruct them to again move one seat to their right. Once the stories are completed, choose one or two students to read their story to the class.
Teach students to create a brochure for a vacation resort. Provide them with examples that provide detailed information about a few resorts or give them time to research resorts online. Inform them that the completed resort must be 2-sided and should have both pictures and text. Model formatting in the program they will be using. You can have students complete this project individually or in groups.
Instruct students to choose a special event, such as a wedding, holiday, birthday or graduation. Assign them to create an invitation to the event that includes all the information guests would need to know. Allow students to be creative with borders, fonts and styles of the invitation. Encourage them to finish it with ribbon or other embellishments.
Show students several examples of fine dining restaurant menus. Assign them to create a menu that includes appetizers, entrees and desserts. Divide them into small groups or have them work individually to type out the menu. Encourage creativity with fonts, type and color of paper and borders. Provide students with glue and heavy card stock to create a backing for the menu.
