Show the children how to include her contact information to make it easy for the recipient to locate the address to respond to. Each child writes his address in the top left corner of the paper. The heading at the top left corner should include the name and address of the child. Additional information, such as a phone number or email address, is optional.
Include helpful information below the return address that provides information to the reader. Directly under the return address, include the date that the letter was written. This provides reference information if the letter mentions a day of the week without a numerical date. Greeting your reader helps her ensure she was the intended recipient. Place this greeting beginning with the word "Dear" and ending with the first name of the recipient.
Write the body of the letter below the greeting. Separate this information into paragraphs if it is more than four to six sentences long, to make it visibly appealing to the reader. The body of the letter should include proper grammar. Leave the subject up to the student, or provide a theme, such as writing a Father's Day or Mother's Day letter to a parent.
Closing with the final piece of contact information allows the recipient to know who wrote the letter. The child writes his name at the bottom of the letter to provide that information. Close it with a short closing message such as "Your Friend," or "Your Classmate."
