Children thrive on structure and routine. It lets the child know what is expected of him and offers a certain security and comfort when beginning each day at school. Without structure and routine children often feel as though they must rush their work or that they can take longer than necessary to complete a task. Classes without routine are often disorganized and chaotic, and without specific guidelines children may flounder and struggle in their studies. Children will feel a sense of achievement and pride when they complete all projects outlined for them in a routine or schedule.
Predictability leads to student productivity when a teacher gives students clear guidelines so they know what is expected of them from the outset. They will become more self-reliant and motivated and will develop self-control.
A teacher who plans her day is in control of her day. If she clearly outlines everything she wishes to achieve with her children that day or week, there will be fewer surprises.
Teachers must follow school curriculum and have a predefined structure for teaching. Creating a schedule allows her to plan how long to develop topics, schedule tests, and build in breaks and downtime. It will ensure she delivers everything her job requires of her and end each day with a feeling of satisfaction.
A class schedule lends itself to discipline and praise. A teacher will have clear, definitive reasons for disciplining a child who does not comply with the schedule; likewise, she can use the schedule to offer praise to children who perform as expected or exceed expectations. Discipline and praise build responsibility and confidence in children and the best way to do so fairly is for everyone is to have clear rules, guidelines and structure in place.
A schedule will keep both the teacher and the children focused. Children who are not required to follow a schedule may become bored and might stray toward disobedience or disinterest. A schedule also keeps the focus on the specific subject the teacher is required to teach at that time and prevents the class from going too far off topic and not achieving the desired goal.
