Help kids make peanut pals with markers, pipe cleaners, twigs, yarn, cotton, wool and glue. Show them how to draw faces on the peanut shells with markers and then help them cut pipe cleaners into small limbs for the peanuts. They can also use tiny twigs if you can find any. Glue the twigs or pipe cleaners on the peanut shell so it looks like a miniature person. Glue small pieces of yarn, wool and other materials on the top of the shell to resemble hair.
Encourage your kids to make fun designs out of rainbow-colored peanuts and shells. Remove 30 or more peanuts from the shells, depending on what type of design the kids want to make. Try to remove the peanuts carefully, so you can still use the hulls of the shells. Paint the peanuts and shells colors of the rainbow such as red, yellow, green, purple and blue. Once the paint is dry glue the peanuts and shells on poster board paper to make designs such as hearts, starts or houses.
Encourage your kids to make homemade peanut butter and other snacks using raw peanuts and a little peanut oil. Supervise the activity if it involves a food processor. Spread homemade peanut butter on crackers or celery sticks and then place a few dried cranberries or blueberries on top to create a sweet, yet salty snack. Sprinkle a salad with additional peanuts, walnuts and raisins to improve the taste and provide a more crunchy texture.
Pour a cup full of whole peanuts inside cookie batter and bake these peanut-infused treatments. Help your kids make their own peanut-coated caramel apples also. Place raw peanuts in a plastic bag and use a meat hammer to smash the peanuts up into smaller pieces. Keeping them in a bag while doing this prevents the nuts from going all over the place. Pour the smashed peanuts in a bowl. Place a wooden stick in the bottom of three or more apples and warm caramel on the stove for a few minutes. Turn the burner off and then dip each apple in the warm caramel. Quickly place the caramel-dipped apple in the bowl full of mashed peanuts and swirl it around. Let it sit and repeat until you're done. Always supervise cooking activities and keep small children away from the stove.
