Draw a rectangle using the edge of a ruler. You may decide to use the denominator to determine the length of the figure, if possible. For example, if the fraction is 3/4 you may draw a rectangle with a length of 4 centimeters.
Divide the rectangle into the number of pieces indicated by the denominator. For example, if the denominator is four, then the figure should be divided into four equal pieces. Each division should line up with an additional centimeter if possible. For example, for the fraction 3/4 the rectangle should be divided at the 1, 2 and 3 centimeter marks to make sure the pieces are equal.
Shade the number of pieces indicated by the numerator. For example, three out of four pieces should be shaded for the fraction 3/4.
Use a compass to draw a circle.
Create equal sectors similar to pieces of pie. The number of sectors should equal the denominator of the fraction. You can draw the pieces by using a visual estimate of the partitions.
To create exact partitions, understand that a circle has a 360 degree rotation. Thus, if the denominator is 4, you must divide 360 by the denominator (4) to get the interior angle measurement of each sector, in this case, 90 degrees.
Shade the number of pieces indicated by the numerator. For example, three out of four pieces should be shaded for the fraction 3/4.
