How to Get a Ratio to a Fraction

A ratio is a mathematical term denoting a pair of numbers or values that are being compared. A fraction is similar to a ratio because it also contains two numbers that share a relationship. In fact, ratios are often written in fraction form. Converting a ratio to a fraction requires making minor changes to the manner in which the numbers within the fraction are expressed.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the first number of the ratio. This will be the numerator of the fraction.

    • 2

Insert a fraction bar, which can be placed underneath or to the right of the numerator.

    • 3

Write the second number of the ratio, which will serve as the denominator of the fraction.

    • 4

Reduce the fraction to simplest terms if necessary. For example, if the original ratio is 4:10, you would write the fraction 4/10. Then you can reduce the fraction by dividing both numbers by 2, which would leave the simplified form of 2/5.
