Waldorf-Inspired Charter Schools in California

Waldorf-inspired charter schools are on the rise, especially in California. Charter schools are public institutions open to any student in the state. Those that are Waldorf-inspired are unique since they infuse music, art, and movement into lessons and offer student-directed learning. Many Waldorf elementary schools don't use textbooks; students in kindergarten through 8th grade are encouraged to create their own texts documenting their learning. Waldorf schools also use a system through which teachers stay with their small classes through 8th grade, encouraging students to think creatively, critically and consciously. There are about 20 Waldorf-inspired charter schools in California, including 10 that are the largest and most established.
