Choose a book at the student's reading level or slightly higher.
Line by line, read a page slowly, then have the student read after you.
Note words that are mispronounced. Write each of them on a flashcard.
Show the student one card at a time. Pronounce the word, then have the student repeat it.
If one word is particularly troublesome, break it down so the child can hear how the sounds meld together.
Go back to the book, and have the student read the text again.
Repeat this exercise, adding more difficult words as the student progresses.
