When seeking a safe and fun online-educational source for your child to engage in expanding his brain, Fun Brain is the number one go-to site on the Internet. If, however, Fun Brain's 100-plus games are not enough to sustain your child's appetite for online learning, there are a huge number of sites that offer games similar to those found at Fun Brain. All of these sites are designed with the same intention: to create a place where parents, teachers, and children can gather to learn (or reinforce) basic, academic skills -- while having fun.

    • Academics can be taught in a variety of ways outside of text-books.

      At Fun School they claim to "make learning fun" and it would appear that they do with their large following. Fun School is a Disney-affiliated site that offers a supportive outlet for parents and teachers alike who are looking for new, inspiring ways to educate (and parent). For children (pre-school through sixth grade) they provide easy access to the site's top 10 rated games (top 10 of many). In their desire to encourage education beyond the computer, they also offer craft videos, recipes and more, encouraging you to return time and time again for new and exciting ideas and games.

    Brain Pop

    • Brain Pop is an award-winning site. Since its creation in 1999, it has established a teaching community of over 135,000 members. This "animated, curriculum-based" site is geared for grades K to 12 and maintains its stature by aligning with state educational standards. Brain Pop has more than 10 million hits monthly. Along with numerous educational games on a subjects beyond reading, writing and arithmetic, they offer lesson plans, video tutorials, and movies. Though educationally designed, interactive and fun -- like Fun Brain -- Brain Pop is not free. They do, however, offer a free trial.

    Play Kid's Games

    • Musical games enhance a child's appreciation of music.

      Designed by parents, Play Kid's Games provides Fun Brain-like games for first grade through eighth. They offer a variety of games geared towards building basic skills such as math, geography, vocabulary -- even music. The parents who created this site are committed to "connect learning and skill building with a sense of challenge, fun and self esteem." This site has received numerous awards for their online, educational-gaming endeavors.

    PBS Kids

    • Mind-bending puzzles are a workout for the brain.

      PBS Kids offers a stimulating site with ample educational-gaming options. Their Cyberchase site, which is based on their popular television show (running nearly a decade now) is ranked high by kids and parents seeking fun Internet-based avenues of learning. Cyberchase is chock-full of science-related games, explorations on logic, and challenging puzzles. This site offers enough content to keep anyone's gaming-brain occupied for a good long while.
