How to Edit on SMART Boards

SMART boards are interactive whiteboards that operate much like a touch screen computer. They are the latest technological advance in education, allowing teachers and students instant access to the internet in the classroom, as well as the ability to move and manipulate objects essential to understanding abstract concepts. SMART boards feature software that recognizes handwriting in a variety of languages with the ability to convert difficult-to-read handwriting into computer text, allowing all students the ability to participate and share their work in front of peers. When errors do occur, SMART boards offer a number of easy ways to edit mistakes.

Instructions

    • 1

Erase writing by using the SMART board eraser located on the pen tray. Simply "wipe" the eraser over the top of the word/s you wish to erase, like a traditional eraser. To erase a large section of writing, press the eraser firmly against the board and make a complete circle around all of the writing you wish to erase, and then tap the center of the circle to make all of the writing disappear. Change the thickness of your eraser by selecting the eraser icon on the toolbar and choosing your desired thickness. The eraser only erases writing made by the SMART board pens and does not erase images or computer text.

Delete images or computer text by selecting "Delete" on the drop-down menu in the text box. To make the text box appear for computer text or images, select the image by touching it with your finger. This should make a dotted-lined text box appear around your image. Next, select the drop-down menu carrot in the top right corner of the text box by touching it with your finger, and then choose "Delete," from the menu of options.

    • 3

Delete an entire page of work by selecting "Delete Page" from the drop-down menu. If you wish to eliminate an entire page of work rather than one or two objects, choose "Delete Page," instead of just "Delete." On the right hand side of your screen you should have thumbnails of each page of work you have completed. Click on the page you wish to delete by using either a mouse or by touching it with your finger. This causes a blue text box to appear around the border of the thumbnail. There should also be a drop down carrot in the right hand corner. Select the carrot and choose "Delete Page." It is the first option on the drop down carrot.

Undo or redo an action you just performed or deleted by selecting the undo and redo arrows located on the toolbar, next to the red x. If you changed the outlook of an object or text and decide you don't like it, undo your work by selecting the undo arrow. If you delete an action on accident, redo the action by selecting the redo arrow.
