How to Use Alphabet Stencils

Use alphabet stencils in a writing center so students can learn how to write letters. Also use stencils to make signs and label materials such as folders, notebooks and storage tubs. Learning to use a stencil only requires having hand-eye coordination.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the stencil on top of the paper or surface you're writing on.

    • 2

Hold the stencil down. Use the hand you do not write with to hold the stencil down on top of the paper so that it stays in place. Hold the stencil down with your fingers along the outside area of the stencil if there is extra space. If there isn't extra space, hold the stencil letter down by putting your fingers on the solid part of the stencil.

    • 3

Trace around the outline of the stencil using your other hand. Pick your pencil up to move to different parts of the alphabet to trace around the outline of the stencil.

    • 4

Repeat the process when using another alphabet stencil.
