How to Calculate Power in KWH

Kilowatt-Hours (KWH) is a measure of power. It tells you how many kilowatts are used over the course of an hour. In order to make this calculation, you need to apply general physics. The formula for power considers energy and time. These are both measures you need to know in order to perform this calculation. Luckily, energy and time calculations are easy to find using different electrical measurements to find the energy in joules.

Instructions

    • 1

Find your total number of energy consumed in joules and how many hours it took to consume that amount of energy. For example, assume you use 400 joules in 2 hours.

    • 2

Divide the energy used by the time to calculate watts per hour. In the example, 200 joules divided by 2 hours equals 100 watts per hour.

    • 3

Multiply watts per hour by 0.001 to convert it to KWH. In the example, 100 times 0.001 equals 0.1 KWH.
