How to Print With an Industrial Thermal Laminator

An industrial thermal laminator preserves print, art work, posters, signage, two-dimensional decorations, and other flat print items by adhering plastic film to both sides of the item through a heat process. Laminating printed items is a quick and easy process. Carefully following steps and keeping in mind laminator tips will produce a wrinkle-free final printed product.

Things You'll Need

  • Laminator with full roll of laminating film
  • Printed items to be laminated
  • Heavy metal paper clips or clothes pins (as needed to weight the processed film edge)
  • Scissors (if the industrial laminator does not have a built-in cutter)

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in the laminator, or turn on the switch controlling the laminator cord outlet.

    • 2

Turn on the laminator power button.

    • 3

Check that there are a few inches of laminated film hanging down the back side of the laminator. Attach weights, such as clothes pins, or heavy metal paper clips, as needed to keep the laminated film moving down and away from the roller.

    • 4

Adjust the heat button; ideal laminating temperature is 145 degrees fahrenheit. Wait 10 minutes for the laminator to completely heat up.

    • 5

Adjust the roller button speed; the slower the speed, the more control you have over feeding print items into the laminator.

    • 6

Lay out the item or items to be laminated on the flat counter directly in front of the laminate roller film.

    • 7

Press the roller button; print items should automatically begin rolling through the laminate film. Push gently any print items that stop moving into the roller until they move on their own.

    • 8

Stop the roller when the laminated items roll out the back of the industrial laminator with a few inches of blank laminate film showing.

    • 9

Cut laminated print items from the roller film at the back side. Clip clothes pins or heavy metal paper clips to the laminate film cut edge.
