Place a piece of sandstone into a beaker or large bowl, making sure the container is large enough to hold the sandstone without it touching the sides of the glass.
Put on your protective eyewear and gloves.
Pour the hydrochloric acid slowly onto the rock, pouring liquid until the rock is fully submerged. Let the rock sit uncovered for 48 hours to allow for maximum dissolution. After 48 hours the sandstone will lack definition and be reduced to small sand particles.
