In most high schools, grades are assigned on a 4-point scale, where:
* A = 4 points
* B = 3 points
* C = 2 points
* D = 1 point
* F = 0 points
Some high schools also use a weighted grading system, which assigns more points to honors or AP courses. For example, an A in an honors course may be worth 5 points, while an A in a regular course is worth 4 points.
To calculate your GPA, simply add up all of your grade points and divide by the total number of credits you have attempted. For example, if you have taken 10 classes, each with 3 credits, and you have earned the following grades:
* A (4 points) in 4 classes
* B (3 points) in 3 classes
* C (2 points) in 2 classes
* D (1 point) in 1 class
Then your GPA would be:
`(4 x 4) + (3 x 3) + (2 x 2) + (1 x 1)` / 10 classes = 3.1
Your GPA can be used to evaluate your academic progress over time, compare your performance to other students, and determine your eligibility for college or scholarships.
