How big should a high school quarterback be?

There's no single "right" size for a high school quarterback. Success depends on many factors beyond just height and weight. However, we can look at general trends:

* Height: Most successful high school quarterbacks range from 5'10" to 6'4". Being on the shorter end can be overcome with exceptional arm strength and accuracy, while being taller can offer advantages in seeing downfield and throwing over defenders. Height outside this range isn't necessarily a disqualifier, but it may present more challenges.

* Weight: Weight is less critical than height, and is highly dependent on body type. A quarterback's weight should be proportionate to their height and build. Generally, a weight range of 160 to 220 pounds is common at the high school level. A leaner build might be preferred for mobility, while a more substantial frame might help withstand hits.

Ultimately, skill and athleticism are far more important than size. A shorter, quicker quarterback with a strong arm and high football IQ can be just as effective, or even more so, than a taller, heavier quarterback lacking those skills. Coaches look for a combination of:

* Arm strength: Ability to throw long and accurately.

* Accuracy: Consistency in hitting targets.

* Pocket presence: Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure.

* Mobility: Ability to run and evade defenders.

* Leadership skills: Ability to motivate and lead the team.

* Football IQ: Understanding of the game and ability to read defenses.

So, instead of focusing on specific measurements, it's more beneficial to concentrate on developing these key attributes.
