How do you say basic words in Korean?

Here are some basic Korean words and phrases, along with their pronunciation (using a Romanization system that's fairly common but keep in mind that pronunciation can be tricky and these are approximations):

Basics:

* 안녕하세요 (Annyeonghaseyo): Hello (formal)

* 안녕 (Annyeong): Hi/Bye (informal)

* 네 (Ne): Yes

* 아니요 (Aniyo): No

* 감사합니다 (Gamsahamnida): Thank you (formal)

* 고맙습니다 (Gomapseumnida): Thank you (slightly less formal)

* 괜찮아요 (Gwaenchanayo): You're welcome / I'm okay

* 죄송합니다 (Joesonghamnida): I'm sorry

* 실례합니다 (Sillyehamnida): Excuse me (to get someone's attention)

* 만나서 반갑습니다 (Mannaseo bangapseumnida): Nice to meet you

Numbers (1-10):

* 일 (il): 1

* 이 (i): 2

* 삼 (sam): 3

* 사 (sa): 4

* 오 (o): 5

* 육 (yuk): 6

* 칠 (chil): 7

* 팔 (pal): 8

* 구 (gu): 9

* 십 (sip): 10

Days of the week:

* 월요일 (wolyoil): Monday

* 화요일 (wayoil): Tuesday

* 수요일 (suyoil): Wednesday

* 목요일 (mogyoil): Thursday

* 금요일 (geumyoil): Friday

* 토요일 (toyoil): Saturday

* 일요일 (ilyoil): Sunday

Common Phrases:

* 잘 지내세요? (Jal jinaeseyo?): How are you? (formal)

* 잘 지내? (Jal jinae?): How are you? (informal)

* 잘 지내요 (Jal jinaeyo): I'm doing well.

* 뭐 해요? (Mwo haeyo?): What are you doing? (informal)

* 뭐 해? (Mwo hae?): What are you doing? (very informal)

* 저는 ... 입니다 (Jeoneun ... imnida): I am ... (formal - use your name after the "...")

* 나는 ... 이야 (Naneun ... iya): I am ... (informal - use your name after the "...")

Important Note on Honorifics: Korean heavily relies on honorifics (respectful language). The words above marked as "formal" are generally safer to use in most situations unless you're speaking to a close friend or family member. Using informal language with someone who expects formality can be considered rude.

To learn pronunciation, I highly recommend using online resources like Forvo (forvo.com) or YouTube videos. Hearing the words spoken is crucial for accurate pronunciation. There are also many great apps and websites dedicated to learning Korean.
