How do you say have in Japanese?

There are two common ways to say 'have' in Japanese:

1. 持つ (motsu) - This is the most general way to say 'have' and can be used for both physical possession and abstract concepts. For example:

私は本を持っています。 (Watashi wa hon o motte imasu.) - I have a book.

彼はお金をたくさん持っています。 (Kare wa okane o takusan motte imasu.) - He has a lot of money.

彼女は大きな夢を持っています。 (Kanojo wa ookii yume o motte imasu.) - She has a big dream.

2. ある (aru) - This verb is used to express the existence of something or someone. It is often used in negative sentences or when making general statements. For example:

私の部屋にはテレビがありません。 (Watashi no heya ni wa terebi ga arimasen.) - There is no TV in my room.

日本には富士山があります。 (Nihon ni wa fujisan ga arimasu.) - There is Mt. Fuji in Japan.

世界にはいろいろな文化があります。 (Sekai ni wa iroirona bunka ga arimasu.) - There are various cultures in the world.
