Keep a notepad by your side while you are reading to record notes of your initial thoughts and emotions while reading the book. Analyze the characters along the way. Make notes about the setting, the personality traits of the characters and their interactions with other characters, the plot structure and the author's tactics of tying it all together in the end.
In the introduction of the book report, specify the book you read and the author's name. Tell the type of story it is, such as mystery, fantasy, adventure, family, western, or science fiction.
The body of the book report should be the most significant portion. This includes the major theme in the book. Describe the setting in detail as the foundation for the mood and feel of the book. Give a good feel for the characters, their natures, traits and interactions with each other. Lay out the plot in interesting, graphic detail. Describe conflict, the pivotal point and the resolution at the end where it all comes together. Wrap it all up with the conclusion that would include your own personal opinion about it and why it could be enjoyed by others. Convey it creatively.
Cite your references and include the title of the book and the author's name. It should be listed as the last name listed first, a comma, and then the first name. Make note of the edition, publisher name and location and the year it was published. Include website information, if necessary, that would include the date of the publication and the URL site.
