Assess student abilities and learning. Give a test or quiz to find out where current student learning levels are and where they struggle. Use the information to break the students into groups of the same level. Ask the students to get involved in setting their own study goals with teacher guidance.
Select a mini-lesson, which is a skill set for students to learn. The exact skill set or lesson will differ each day. Give a brief explanation of the mini lesson.
Provide a variety of methods for students to learn. Students can learn in various different ways. For example, some students learn best with hands-on methods and others by reading. Set up different materials in a few different locations around the room.
Put the students into their groups. Groups will differ in size according to their current level in the class and their learning styles. For example, some students might break into a buddy group and read the material back and forth while other students might break into a larger group for extra teacher help.
Move around the classroom and help students as they need; some students will need more help while others will need less. This will meet all of the class needs for stimulation, challenge and attention from the teacher.
