Have the children make life-size images of themselves holding a picture of what they used to look like. Use long rolls of art paper and tape pieces together to be tall enough to fit the student. Have the student lie on the paper with their arms placed like they are holding a picture frame and trace their form on the paper. Have the student cut out their form and decorate it with construction paper. Make sure that students place their arms at their belly like they are holding a picture. For the next project, have students make a picture frame from cardboard and paint it with acrylic paint. Have students draw a picture of themselves at a younger age and frame it with the cardboard frame. Glue the picture to the hands of the student's form.
Have students paint pictures of how they look today and how they looked as a baby. Then have students paint a picture of how they think they will look in five years and how they think they will look as an adult. Instruct them to make a paper mache picture frame that is large enough to hold all four pictures. Have the students paint and decorate the picture frames. Make the base from cardboard and masking tape. Make the matte paper from black construction paper. Place the paintings on the matte paper, then clue to the completed picture frame.
Make block printing images of a growing flower. Give students a piece of scratch foam and a dulled pencil. Have the children draw a picture of a small sprout at one end. Have the children draw a tall flower at the other end and then draw three flowers in between that show the flower getting taller. Use water soluble printing ink and spread the ink onto a brayer on a piece of wax paper. Coat the brayer so that the ink is even and tacky. Gently spread the ink from the brayer onto the indented side of the foam. Print the ink on a piece of white construction paper.
Make a balloon garden. Use a funnel to place 1/2 cup of dirt inside a balloon. Take a funnel and add water to the soil until the soil is wet all the way through but not muddy. Place the funnel back into the balloon and add a small amount of radish seeds. Remove the funnel and blow up the balloon. Tie the balloon and then tie a sturdy string around the nozzle of the balloon. Hang the balloon gardens next to a window and watch them grow.
