Showing up every day is an achievement worth recognizing in any school or class. Acknowledge a student's high attendance with a trophy or small present. Teachers can also download and print free award certificates for high attendance, as well as other categories, at the Teach Net website. Honor the child who hasn't missed any days of school, or the least amount of the group, for her hard work. The ceremony will also show students that being punctual is appreciated.
Every child is special in his own way, so give each student a specially created award and title. Instead of just giving a certificate, award the youngsters with candy that relates to their new titles. For example, the child who was elected "Sweetest Person" can receive Sweet Tarts, the "Best Jokester" can get a Snickers and a Baby Ruth can go to the "Most Athletic."
Recognize high achievers as well as those who never gave up the race. For example, teachers can honor a student who had the highest grades in the class with the "Hare Award." You can also give recognition to a student who may have struggled through a subject or area of learning but never quit trying to improve. These awards can be certificates, or even given in the form of small stuffed rabbits and tortoises.
This kind of award can give recognition to each student in the class while including everyone in the selection process. Start by asking the students to come up with various award categories, such as "Best Listener" or "Class Clown." Create as many awards as there are students in the class. Ask the students to nominate one classmate for each category. This can be done by paper ballots or a group discussion. This is a good way to get everyone involved and let classmates know they're special.
