Create time each week to talk about a different aspect of wellness with your elementary school students. There are several different type of wellness: mental wellness, physical wellness and even social wellness. You might want focus on one aspect at a time, or focus on all of the aspects of wellness at once.
Teach students about wellness using words that are appropriate to their age level. Younger students need simpler language and concepts, while older students can listen to more complex language and concepts.
Use posters and other illustrations in everyday education. Examples include posters of hand-washing directions in the bathrooms, reminders of healthy eating options in the cafeteria and hygiene and social policies reminders throughout the classrooms and school hallways.
Encourage discussions among your students about various aspects of wellness. Often, wellness is easiest to teach in large groups, and in non-traditional and informal settings such as discussions and student meetings.
