Interactive Math Games for 6 Year Olds

Some math concepts are challenging for students to learn but once they learn them, give students extra practice by allowing them to play interactive math games. These games can reinforce what students have already learned or extend on what they already know. These websites have games with math concepts that are appropriate for first-graders who are typically 6 years old.
  1. Toon University

    • Toon University.com is a website that has Internet games for multiple subject areas such as reading, grammar, science and social studies. After clicking on the math subject link, students can play free non-members games about subtraction, comparing numbers and place value. Other free non-members games are related to counting money and multiplication. For members, students can play games about other math concepts such as patterns, odd and even, addition and fact families. For those interested in becoming members to the website, membership prices begin at $99.95 for one year.

    Mrs. Alphabet

    • Mrs. Alphabet.com is a website that has links to multiple math websites. There are links to websites for almost every math concept learned in first grade. The website has math concepts about addition, place value and time. There are also interactive activities for calendar skills, patterns, graphing, fractions, money and measurement. Next to the links are descriptions that explain whether the games are leveled, easy, hard or offer a variety of math activities.

    IXL.com

    • This website has games listed by math concept for first grade similar to the way state standards are listed. Within that standard specific skills are listed so that students can focus on one specific skill under a concept. For example, the concept time is listed and under that are skills related to weekdays, telling time and calendar skills. While lots of sites offer games for general math concepts, this website is a good choice for teachers targeting specific skills with students.

    Education Place

    • "Education Place" has math activities arranged by grade level. After clicking on the "extra practice" sign on the website's virtual theme park, students can play games related to math concepts such as time, money, addition and graphing. Some addition games require students to use strategies such as counting on or using doubles to add. Time activities allow students to tell time or practice putting events in order. Money games challenge students to identify coins or count money to determine the amount of change. This is another website that allows teachers to focus in on specific skills for students to practice.
