Roman Mythology Games

A lot of gods are in the Roman pantheon, and children learning about mythology for the first time have to assimilate many new terms and names. By using learning games, teachers can help their students not only retain information about the major players in ancient mythology but also enjoy themselves at the same time.

By writing clues that ask students for information you want them to remember, you can customize a puzzle to your own specifications with such sites as Discovery Education's Puzzlemaker. Other sites that have pre-designed crossword puzzles that you can download for your students, such as Gods, Heroes and Myth.

    Trivia Games

    • Websites such as FunTrivia offer knowledge games in a variety of topics, including Roman mythology. Many of these games offer questions with four or five multiple-choice options, and they give you a score at the end of the game. Some games will even give you a rating based on your score.

    Mythology Trading Cards

    • Take your students back to the "old days" of baseball cards by having them create a trading card for each of the Roman gods and goddesses. A picture can go on the front, either drawn by hand or printed and glued on from the Internet. On the back, such items as ancestry, famous deeds, property that they are the god or goddess of and special powers inform the reader about this particular deity. Making these cards can help students recall information about each character.

    Board Games

    • Several board games available on the market feature the conflicts among the gods and goddesses as a theme. "Hera and Zeus" is just one of these; while playing this game, players use various cards to attack mortals that Hera and Zeus are trying to favor, and the player with the most successful attacks ends up winning.
