Did habitant kids go to school?

Habitants, meaning French Canadians, especially those in rural Quebec, did go to school, although the system and access varied significantly over time and location.

Early schooling was often religious, provided by the church, and not always consistent or widely available, particularly in more remote areas. The quality and length of education also varied greatly. As the 19th and 20th centuries progressed, the education system in Quebec became more formalized and widespread, leading to more consistent access to schooling for habitant children. However, even then, factors like distance from schools and economic circumstances continued to affect attendance and completion rates.
