November 1 is National Family Literacy Day. Invite parents to come in and read their child's favorite books to the class. Use this opportunity to plan an outing to the library and take in story hour together. Use nursery rhymes to help introduce rhyme and rhythm, and fairy tales as starting points for art lessons.
November 11 is Veteran's Day. Create patriotic crafts, and hold a parade with the American flag. Make red, white and blue finger paintings to send to troops and veterans groups, thanking them for their service.
November 15 is America Recycles Day. Use the contents of your recycling bin--boxes, cans, jars, cartons, tubes and lids to build classroom skyscrapers and wonderlands. Have children stack them on the carpet area, and hot glue the creations together when the students return to their tables. Paint the creations and put on display.
November is Aviation Month, an ideal time to talk about airplanes and air transportation. Fold paper airplanes and have students decorate them. Hang paper airplanes from the ceiling and discuss air transportation.
