Set up a plate of different foods, such as cheese, crackers, vegetables and fruit. Blindfold the child and tell him to sample the food. Ask him to guess what he's eating. Tell him that he is using his sense of taste. Be sure that you don't give the child anything he is allergic to.
Play a CD that includes animal sounds. Ask the child to identify the animals. Tell her that she is using her sense of hearing.
Cut holes large enough for a child's hand into a long piece of cardboard. Put the cardboard in front of several bowls. Fill the bowls with different things, such as candy worms, hard-boiled eggs, water and dirt. Have the child guess what is in each bowl. Tell him that he is using his sense of touch.
Fill several see-through bags with things for the child to smell. For instance, you could use a flower, peanut butter, play dough and garlic. Have the child take a whiff and tell you what's inside. Tell her she is using her sense of smell.
Give the child a pretend eye exam by writing a series of letters on the chalkboard. Write large letters on top and progressively smaller letters underneath. Ask the child to identify as many letters as he can. Tell him that he is using his sense of sight.
