Preschool Craft Projects Dealing With the Alphabet

Preschool projects based on the alphabet can be as simple as connect the dots or as detailed as a monogrammed birthday card. Animated alphabet characters come to life with sparkles, sprinkles, costumes, hats and highlights. Edible alphabet letters make craft time and snack time indistinguishable. The class can create a table of colorful ABCs out of apples, blueberries and carrots. Teachers and parents can have fun finding foods for each letter of the alphabet.
  1. Animated Alphabet Letters

    • Animated alphabet letters can include animals, fairies, princesses, monsters, goblins, ghouls, friends and family members. A large letter "A" can be made into an angel with a halo and wings, arms, legs and a face. Use a silver pipe cleaner and glitter to give the angel character. The letter "B" can turn into a bumblebee with yellow and black pipe cleaners and a sparkle of gold glitter. The letter "C" can become a clown's face with colorful cotton ball hair under a little black hat. Create personalized letters to represent Auntie Anna, Baby Brother Bob and Cousin Charlie. Turn these individual alphabet crafts into a 26-page scrapbook.

    Edible Alphabet Letters

    • Alphabet letter crafts can be made out of edible products. Slice up apples to make a large letter "A" on a paper plate, with peanut butter as the adhesive to make it stick. Line up blueberries in the form of an uppercase and lowercase letter "B," with a sugar-based paste. Create a capital "C" out of cereal. A class of 26 students can make the entire alphabet as an afternoon project and then eat it at snack time. Add alphabet letter pretzels made from soft pretzel dough.

    Alphabet Birthday Cards

    • Preschoolers can make alphabet cards for birthdays, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day. The student needs two pieces of colorful construction paper (in two different colors so the letters stand out from the card). One sheet of paper should be folded in half to make the card. The student can use a 4-inch stencil to trace any capital letter onto the other sheet of paper. She can cut out the letter, paste it onto the card and outline it with a bright color marker. Place a heart-shaped doily or tissue paper between the letter and the card for Valentine's Day or Mother's Day for a thoughtful gift.

    Alphabet Connect the Dots

    • Alphabet connect the dots can be made out of several small letters instead of traditional dots. Print and cut out 12 capital "As" that are each 1-inch tall. Count out 12 letters to each child. Help her place them 1-inch apart in the shape of a large capital letter "A." Place one letter at the top and four letters down each side. Use the remaining three letters for the bridge in the capital "A." Once the large letter "A" is formed, the individual letters can be glued. The letters can be connected like dots with a crayon. Count and cut out 1-inch letters for the rest of the alphabet. Form the corresponding larger letters.
