How to Make a Sight Word Game for Early Readers

A sight word game uses the most common words in the English language. Here is a fun sight word game that your children can make with a little help from you.

  • Old magazines and pictures
  • Envelope
  • Index cards
  • Black marker
  • Glue

Instructions

      Have your child go through old magazines or pictures and cut out the ones she likes. Make sure the picture are of common things such as "boy," "dog" or other objects she encounters often.

      Ask your child to glue the pictures on to his construction paper or poster board.

      Take a lined index card and write each word on a small piece of index card. Cut it small enough to fit underneath the pictures.

      Glue an envelope to the back of your child's paper. You will store your small index card words here.

      Now, have your child take out the index card words from the envelope and play a matching game. Place each word underneath its corresponding picture.
