    Kahn Academy

    • The Kahn Academy was developed by Salman Kahn. Kahn's credentials include an MBA from Harvard Business School, Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Free educational videos are available from Kahn Academy through YouTube. Videos pertaining to math, social studies, banking, finance, SAT and GMAT prep and history are free to all. The only requirement is a YouTube account. The Kahn Academy is a recipient of the 2009 Tech Award in Education. Homeschooling programs from Kahn Academy are designed for very advanced middle school, high school, and college students.

    Discovery Education

    • Discovery Education offers streaming video for every subject and every grade level. Several content options are available. There is an annual subscription fee for each of the services. It can be an expensive program. Some states like Arkansas offer Discovery Education services free of charge to all parents. Other options for discounts are homeschool cooperatives.

      Discovery Education Streaming Plus is the same content used in traditional public and private school systems. Parents can choose videos based on subject matter and grade level. Discovery Health is another streaming video option. The content is health related subjects for middle and high school children. Discovery Science contains written, animated and video content for science subjects. The content is very different from Discovery Education Streaming Plus.
