You realized to your shock that the marker was permanent. Do not be afraid, it is still possible to salvage the item.
First see if the item is washable or not. Taste a small hidden area with the rubbing alcohol. Wait a few hours to see how the surface responds to the rubbing alcohol.
It the surface responds well, it is time to start wiping the stain with the rubbing alcohol. You will see the color coming off on the cotton ball.
It may take multiple applications. I have used this process to take red permanent marker from my sofa that my son colored one afternoon. I also used this process when my husband uses permanent on a white board. It came out like new. If part of the white board is ever messed up, liquid paper makes a great repair to make the spot blend in with the rest of the board.
