Homeschool Organization Ideas

One of the most crucial factors of achieving homeschool success is organization. Without organizational skills and practices, homeschooling can be a nightmare. Assignments are forgotten, deadlines are missed and distractions within the home are plentiful. There are different organizational strategies that can be implemented by any homeschooler.
  1. Schedule is Key

    • Having a daily routine will help the homeschool organization process. Knowing what to do at each part of your day will keep you on track. Once you have created a schedule, stick to it. According to Homeschool-by-design.com, "children are comforted by the knowledge of knowing what will happen next." There are a variety of daily planners that allow homeschool students to create hourly schedules for their school day. The great thing about homeschooling is that these schedules don't have to mirror the traditional school day. If your child likes to play outside in the morning, then they can schedule their school work for the late afternoon or vice versa.

    Prioritize

    • Prioritizing goes hand in hand with scheduling. Being a homeschool teacher to your children or being an actual homeschooler presents many different activity options throughout the day. You must prioritize these activities so you can accomplish the most important things on a daily basis. Make a list of priorities, which are activities or tasks that are the most significant. Place all of your priorities on your schedule before anything else. Once you have all of these on your schedule you will be able to see how much time you have for less important things or extra-curricular activities.

    Storage

    • Homeschooling can cause clutter with all the books that it involves. It is important to have all of your homeschooling resources organized in an easy-to-use fashion. Homeschool work should always be done in the same place, whether it's a desk in an office or the kitchen table. All resources should be kept close to the work station. Keeping books and supplies in another room will make the time spent studying less efficient. Having a bookcase with all of your homeschool resources is a great way to organize them. Different shelves can house different subjects. Organizing your books and files in this manner will make them easy to locate when necessary.
