Ohio Homeschool Field Trip Ideas

Ohio field trips are a wonderful way to explore the world with your children. Homeschoolers should join a local support group in order to receive school group rates. Individual homeschoolers can obtain discounts by showing a homeschool identification card. Ask the facility to supply educational materials for the children in advance in order to enhance the learning experience.
  1. USS COD Submarine Memorial

    • The USS COD SS-224 World War II GATO class fleet submarine is famous for being the only submarine involved in an international submarine to submarine rescue. It is currently a memorial to all those who have lost their lives in submarines throughout the U.S. Navy's 100 year history.

      The USS COD is in its original condition. The tour requires visitors to enter and exit through the hatches and climb down ladders. Visitors with physical disabilities, infants and toddlers may have difficulty entering and exiting the submarine.

      There is a fee to tour the USS COD Submarine Memorial. Children under the age of 6, military in full uniform, active duty military and their families are admitted at no charge. Groups should call before coming to arrange a tour.

    Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum

    • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame makes an interesting field trip for students and parents

      This museum is all about rock and roll. Visitors will see memorabilia pertaining to rock and roll's most prominent personalities at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. The museum's collection is augmented with items on loan from various artists. It is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.

    MAPS Air Museum

    • The MAPS Air Museum is dedicated to preserving the aviation history of the United States, including both military and civilian aircraft. Highlights of the museum include educational displays of the aircraft collection, interactive exhibits and an aviation archive library. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday. It is closed on Mondays. There is a fee to visit the museum. Children under 6 years of age are admitted free. Homeschooling groups should book tours in advance.

    Drake Planetarium and Science Center

    • Learn about the stars and galaxies at the Drake Planetarium and Science Center. This is a perfect place for homeschooled children to learn about space and other science topics. They offer a hands-on universe program specifically designed for students in grades 6 through 12. Registration is required for all programs.

    Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

    • Polar bears are the newest exhibit at the Columbus Zoo

      The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium contains 6,000 animals. Jack Hannah is the director emeritus of the zoo. Mr. Hannah has dedicated his life to the preservation and conservation of animals. The zoo is divided into sections according to geographic locations. It is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Homeschooling groups should call in advance to book a tour and receive group rates.
