Instructions

      Complete and submit the Home-Based Private Educational Program PI-1206 form to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction no later than Oct. 15 of the current school year. This is a required form homeschools must complete for reporting purposes. The form asks for the number of students attending the homeschool, and you must indicate on the form if you are in compliance with the requirements of (a) through (e) Wisconsin Statutes 118.165(I). Starting with the 2010-2011 school year, the form can be filled out and submitted online.

      Comply with requirement (a) of Wisconsin Statute 118.165(I) which states that the primary purpose of the home school is to provide private or religious-based education.

      Comply with requirement (b) of Wisconsin Statute 118.165(I). This requirement states that the home-based education must be privately controlled.

      Comply with requirement (c) of Wisconsin Statute 118.165(I) that requires 875 hours of instruction per school year.

      Comply with requirement (d) of Wisconsin Statute 118.165(I) that requires sequential instruction in the subjects of reading, math, language arts, science, social studies and health.

      Parents who reside in Milwaukee and other Wisconsin communities can enroll their homeschooled high school students in a local public high school on a part-time basis without jeopardizing their home school status. Students may take up to two courses per semester at a local high school.
