Difference Between a Circle & a Sphere

Circle and sphere are both rounded figures. A circle is a shape of Euclidean geometry. It consists of the set of points that are equidistant from a single point, the center. The distance between any such points and the center is called the circle's radius. However, a sphere is a perfectly round geometric object such as a round ball. In a plane, a rounded object is called a circle, but in three-dimensional space, the same figure becomes a sphere.
  1. Shape

    • A circle is a two-dimensional figure, while a sphere is a three-dimensional figure that has a volume.

    Area and Volume

    • One can only calculate the surface area of a circle because it is only a two-dimensional figure, however, for a sphere, one can calculate both the surface area and volume.

    Example

    • A sphere is like a tennis ball. If you draw a tennis ball on a paper using a pencil, it is a circle.

    Formulas for Calculation

    • The formula used for calculating the circumference of a circle is "two times the radius times pi." The of a circle is the "radius squared time pi." For calculating the surface area of a sphere, it is "four times pi times the radius squared," while the equation for the volume is "4/3 times pi times the radius cubed." The approximate value of pi is 3.14.
