Pick a simple type of paper without fancy designs or bright colors. If possible, write the thank-you note by hand. It is a much kinder gesture and will show sincere appreciation.
Write the date on the top left side of the letter.
Add your name and address and any other relevant contact information just below the date on left side.
Write the recipients (donors) name after you leave a space. Address the thank you letter to an individual instead of an entire organization whenever possible. This helps to give the letter a personal feel. If there is group of people involved then write it to the most senior person among them.
Tell the donor a little about yourself. You can include your major if that wasn't implied in receiving the scholarship. Also include the organizations you participate in or hope to join.
Mention how the scholarship will help in your studies. Will the scholarship allow you to study more instead of working more hours at a job?
Talk about your goals, future and career plans. This will show the donor the ultimate results of their scholarship.
End the letter with a sincere thank you, and sign the paper with the closing "sincerely." Sign and then print your name below your signature.
Proofread your letter to ensure it is free from grammatical errors. Having someone else proofread it will help catch more mistakes too.
