Choose a topic that interests you. The more fascinated you are by the topic of your paper, the more likely you will want to spend on writing the best paper you've ever turned in. The considerable amount of time that must be spent to produce a solid paper will go much faster if you are actually interested in the topic.
Avoid procrastination when writing a term paper. Bypass your tendency to put off writing papers until the last minute by changing the date of the deadline. Give yourself a deadline of the 10th of the month if the actual deadline for turning the paper in is the 15th of the month. Completing the paper by your own deadline also results in giving you extra time for revision.
Create an outline for your paper to help avoid the problem of being overwhelmed by the thought of writing an entire paper. Use the standard outlining system taught in school if you find that helpful. Otherwise, just jot down notes and ideas in any fashion that you can interpreted when you actually sit down to start writing. Break down the term paper into more manageable blocks to which you can dedicate to finishing.
Choose the same spot and environment each time you set down to writing your term paper or thesis. Connect the space around you with the act of acting so that you make a mental association between writing and the location. Find a spot to write where you will not be interrupted. Choose a place you will be comfortable and where you can spend as much time as you need.
Make the decision on external distractions according to what suits you best, not what you have been told is the ideal situation. Write your essay inside the quiet of your locked room with the shades drawn, the TV off and no music playing if that is what best facilitates the writing process for you. Choose a room where the TV is providing background noise if you are not effective writing in a silent atmosphere of solitude.
Give yourself scheduled breaks during the process of constructing your term paper. Do not limit these breaks to just eating or going to the bathroom or exercising. Put the paper out of your conscious mind while playing video games, listening to music or hanging out with friends. Keep a pad and pen handy for when your subconscious mind returns to your paper and you are suddenly struck with a good idea related to the assignment.
