How to Use Cleavage in a Sentence

The word "cleavage" belongs to the noun classification of words, which include persons, places or things. "Cleavage" refers to the state of being split or fragmented. Cleavage derives from the verb "to cleave," meaning to cut or separate (it can also mean, interestingly, to join). In addition to the more common usage to refer to a woman's partially exposed chest, scientists also use "cleavage" to refer to the splitting of cells, molecules and rocks. You can also use cleavage figuratively to refer to a division between people, for example.
