Read the narrative topics or questions carefully. Write out a simple answer on a separate piece of paper. Use this time to gather your ideas for the narrative before putting the words on the application.
Think of an anecdote that you can place in the narrative. Anecdotes are personal stories that can show the application reader just how you exhibit the qualifications asserted by the narrative topic. Choose a story that is flattering to you, inoffensive and fits with the topic.
Write the narrative as you would a narrative essay, as you are trying to persuade the reader to give you a position, grant, or some other affirmative result. If needed, you can follow the format for a narrative essay. Create an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement, which is the main point of your narrative. Write up to three paragraphs for the body of the narrative before a concluding paragraph ends the narrative.
Read over your essay once it is finished. Make sure that the thoughts are clearly connected and follow the topic of the narrative. The narrative is supposed to make you stand out from the other applicants, while selling you to the application reader. Make changes to ensure that your narrative accomplishes these goals.
Proofread for typos and grammatical errors before submitting the essay. Do not depend on your word processor to catch all of the errors. Spell checkers are notorious for leaving obvious errors and also for creating new ones.
