How to Get a CEU Course Accreditation for Massage

Accreditation increases the credibility of your organization and lets potential students know that they are getting their CEU credits to fulfill their massage therapy state licensing requirements from an organization that has survived the rigors of professional review. An organization that has received accreditation from The Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET) is eligible to apply for a dot edu website at Educause. Having a dot edu website also increases your organizations credibility because only educational institutions with recognized accreditation qualify for a dot edu website.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the ACCET website and click the "Accreditation" button, then the "Accreditation Process" link in the top menu to go to the "Accreditation Process" page.

    • 2

Click the "Document 1 -- The Accreditation Plan: Policies and Procedures" link to open the PDF document. Review the accreditation requirements carefully to be sure your organization qualifies for accreditation.

    • 3

Click the "create an account" link and complete all five sections of the "Initial Inquiry" application. The five sections are general information, questionnaire, campuses, programs and review.

    • 4

Pay a $100 nonrefundable processing fee (as of 2011) by online check or major credit card in the "Review" section of the "Initial Inquiry" application. This application will help the ACCET decide if your school qualifies to apply for accreditation to distribute CEU credits for massage. If your school does qualify to apply for accreditation, the next step is to attend the workshop.

    • 5

Click "Events," then "Workshops" on the top menu to go to the "Workshops" page. Scroll down and review the "Accreditation Workshop Schedule" to select a workshop date and location. As of 2011, the workshops cost $450 for the first participant and $350 for the second participant. ACCET prefers that you do not send more than two participants.

    • 6

Scroll down further on the "Workshops" page and complete the "Workshop Registration" form. You must pay with a PayPal account. PayPal is a free service that allows you to pay online by entering an email account address instead of a financial account number. Attend the workshop and follow any instructions given there. After you have attended a workshop, the next step is to complete the Analytic Self-Evaluation Report (ASER) you received at the workshop.

    • 7

Evaluate your school with the ASER and send it in to ACCET. Once you have successfully completed this step, the next step is to prepare for and schedule the ACCET examination team's on-site inspection.

    • 8

Go to the ACCET website and click "Accreditation," then "Accreditation Process" to go to the Accreditation process page. Scroll down to the "On-Site Examination" section and click the "ACCET Document 2 -- Standards for Accreditation" to read the PDF document in preparation for an on-site inspection of your school by an ACCET examination team.

    • 9

Scroll down further on the "Accreditation Process" page of the ACCET website to the "Scheduling" section at the bottom of the page and click the "Accreditation Review Schedule" link. Review the "Accreditation Review Schedule" to determine the approximate date for your on-site evaluation. Schedule your examination following instructions in the ACCET communication following completion of the ASER.

    • 10

Receive the examination team at your location and follow their instructions. They will prepare a "Team Report" on their visit to your organization. Once this is completed, they will contact you approving or rejecting your accreditation to distribute CEU credits for massage. It can take up to 12 months for ACCET to approve accreditation for your school.
