A doer is a learner who enjoys being an active part of learning and the learning process. A doer is interested in how what hs is learning will relate to what he does and how someone like him can use this information outside of the classroom. This type of learner enjoys having information given to him in a clear and precise manner. A doer will appreciate teaching that incorporates real-world practice with believable simulations of problems and solutions.
A feeler bases her learning experiences on emotion and feeling. The learning process for a feeler is based on personal experiences. If a feeler can relate with what is being taught to something in her life or in the life of someone near to her, then this is how she will best learn. Feelers are people-oriented and do best in environments that are not structured. An open educational environment in which the feeler can express emotion and find meaning are how the feeler will learn best.
A thinker puts logic and reason above emotions and feelings. A feeler is not concerned about how a concept will relate to him, but enjoys analyzing how an idea or concept was brought forth in the first place. Thinkers analyze, evaluate and love to work independently. Group activities are not their forte. The best learning environment for thinkers is one in which he can read, question, and think and work independently.
An observer is similar to a thinker in that she enjoys independent activities, but she also like to observe and this includes observing other people. An observer enjoys watching others and listening to their thoughts and ideas and then processing those thoughts and ideas on her own. An observer enjoys discovery and will probably do best in areas such as science and psychology.
